The term “Affiliate Society” means a registry, association or other professional organization normally in the business of registering and/or setting standards for Doctors of Osteopathy or Registered Practitioners of Osteopathy in the country or province of origin of the applicant, that has been formally recognized by the OCA Board of Directors.
Among non-physician osteopaths, only those who are members of an RAS are eligible to become International Affiliate Members of the OCA. International MDs do not require an RAS for eligibility to become International Affiliate Members.
Criteria for acceptance as an Affiliate Society include:
- Demonstration by the society of generally accepted standards for the practice of osteopathy in philosophical, historical, educational, technical and ethical areas;
- Receipt by the Osteopathic Cranial Academy (OCA) of the bylaws, constitution or articles of incorporation (English translation);
- Receipt by the Osteopathic Cranial Academy (OCA) of a current list of members;
- Approval by the OCA Board of Directors.
